Falkirk East
Candidate Profiles |
 | Cathy Peattie MSP
Ms. Peattie is Convenor of the Equal Opportunities Commission and a member of the Scottish Commission for Public Audit.
In November 2001, when Jack McConnell appointed Patricia Ferguson as a Minister, Cathie Peattie was his nominee as Deputy Presiding Offer. However there was a rebellion in the secret ballot and she only received 45 votes compared to 68 the successful Tory Murray Tosh won.
Prior to her election at the Scottish Parliament, she was Manager for Community Outreach and Director of Falkirk Voluntary Action Resource Centre.
|
| | Annabelle Ewing
After Douglas Henderson, former MP for East Aberdeenshire and candidate for Falkirk East passed away in September 2006, Annabelle stepped into his place. Annabelle herself has a long background in politics, standing as an SNP candidate many times, and latterly representing Perth in Westminster after the 2001 election. Boundary changes in 2005 forced Annabelle out of Westminster. Annabelle continues the political legacy of the Ewing family joining her brother, Fergus, in the Scottish Parliament if she's successful.

Scott is a practicing solicitor involved in a number of high profile mergers & acquisitions, cartel investigations, high value litigation and regulatory matters.
Mr Campbell was a candidate for the Party at the 2001 general election in Kirkcaldy. Previously he was a candidate in St Andrews for the Fife Council elections in 1999.

Talk about spinning the result! The other SNP candidate, Angus MacDonald got over 1900 votes, all first preference votes, so how can you say people have 'seen through the nats". Angus Rae suffered from being well down the ballot paper, as did Alistair McNeil who only scraped in on the seventh round, the same round that Angus Rae was knocked out on. Allison Black was at the top, resulting in 1400 votes. Word is that the design of the ballot paper will be changing for the next election. If you are standing again I'd advise you to change your name by deedpoll to Allan Aardvark.

Angus Rae comes from Grangemouth and gets a humiliating 238 votes - thats even worse. No Grangemouth people have seen through the nats and given them a bloody nose Labour 2 snp 1 plus the Tory Spears who was also 6 times more popular than born and bred, now living in Laurieston "Portonian", the SNP'S Angus (238 vote) Rae. Now

I agree that it is unfair to say that Angus Rae was imported as he is from Grangemouth! However Labour canvassers I think made the most progress, due to the fact in the area where Allyson Black stood she polled over 1400 votes ,compared to a poor 238. Labour got the message about PR where the SNP clearly never. I really hate this how Parties make pathetic swipes at each other's candidates, it is truly unprofessional and no wonder people are becoming alienated by the situation! Why can't we stick to policy discussion which I think this web site is about! Come on its just bad politics!

Angus Rae 'imported' from Laurieston? That's rich! Angus Rae was born and bred in Grangemouth, unlike any of the other candidates. I know for a fact that Labour were trying to get one of the SNP's rejects who had not got through the SNP selction system to stand for them. In addition, nearly half the local Labour candidates had only joined the party 3 or 4 months prior to the election. Alistair McNeil (who had been going to stand as an Indy) Adrian 'I'm not political' Mahoney and Stephen Fry. Hardly anything to be proud of! And then there's McLuckie, but let's not go there! No more lectures from Labour thank-you!

the poster from 30/5 is having a laugh if the snp did do well for Grangemouth then there candidate angus Rae would have goy more than a humiliating 238 votes but then they were so short of people to stand up for this "great record" that they imported him from Laurieston no 3 out of 4 Grangemouth people said noo way to the snp
